My name is Julian Smith. I’m a writer and editor based in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada. I recently quit my job as a copywriter for a major web hosting and design company to be a stay-at-home dad and freelancer.
Writing
I specialize in writing marketing copy for websites. For six years, I worked as a copywriter for Web.com. During that time, I wrote more than 4,000 sites for small businesses throughout Canada, the US, and the UK.
I also write science fiction and fantasy stories under the name Julian Mortimer Smith. I’ve been published in some of the world’s top magazines and anthologies, including Asimov’s, Lightspeed, Terraform, and Best American Science Fiction & Fantasy.
Editing
I have also worked as a freelance editor for a variety of clients, including a large arts and entertainment magazines, a major board game company, and a small romance publisher.
Education
I have a bachelor’s degree in English literature from McGill University (Montreal) and a master’s in communications and culture from York University (Toronto).
During grad school, I worked as a research assistant, teaching assistant, and assistant conference organizer.
